Pinterest is NOT Facebook or Instagram!
Let’s be real. Pinterest is not like Facebook or Instagram. I really had no idea how to use Pinterest.
When I first started using it, I was so confused. I had never posted anything on Pinterest before, and the whole layout just felt… weird.
What is a Pin?
What is a Board?
Am I supposed to follow people?
‘Like’ stuff?
Pinterest comments… is that even a thing?
Things to post on Pinterest?
I mean, what kind of stuff DO people post on Pinterest?
And just HOW to post on Pinterest seemed like a foreign language to me.
Is your head spinning yet?
If you’ve ever felt that same “ummm nope” feeling about Pinterest, you’re not alone. 🙋♀️ It’s not just you.
“You Have to be Using Pinterest for Your Business!” 🤪
I used to open Pinterest, poke around, then close it in frustration.
Everyone online kept saying, “You have to be using Pinterest for your blog or business!”
And I was like…
“Okay but HOW do you post on Pinterest?
Where do you go?
What does it mean to pin something?
Can you just upload a picture like Instagram?”
Nobody explained it clearly. And honestly? It kept me stuck way longer than it should’ve. 😩
If that’s where you are right now, I’ve got you. You’re not behind, and it’s not too late. I’m going to show you exactly what to do… step by step.
What is a Pin? What is a Board?
What is a Pin?
Think of a Pin as a digital flyer. It’s a vertical image that links to a blog post, product, or idea. And it lives forever on Pinterest… unlike Instagram stories that disappear in 24 hours.
What is a Board?
Boards are like folders. You group Pins into categories so they’re easy to find. For example:
- Healthy Recipes
- Faith-Based Encouragement
- Affiliate Marketing Tips
You can create as many as you want (and you should… for Pinterest SEO!)
How to Post on Pinterest

Step 1: Go to Pinterest
Log into your business account. (Need to create one? Click here for help)
Step 2: Click “Create –> Create Pin”
Top left menu on desktop or bottom middle (+) on mobile. If you’re having trouble, look for the (+) button and click that, then (under ‘create), click (pin), that will take you to the page to upload (to post) a pin.
Step 3: Upload Your Image
Option 1: This is your vertical pin graphic (1080 x 1920 px is best). You can create it in Canva. If you need help creating your pin graphic, read this.
(‘How to upload pictures to Pinterest’ is the same process as above. You just choose your picture instead of your pin graphic and follow the steps below)
Option 2: OR you can click the button that says: “save from URL”, then click the arrow. Put in your url that you want to create a pin for and click the ‘next’ arrow… Pinterest will bring up all the images on that url page. select one or more then click add pin(s).
Step 4: Add a Title
This should include your main keyword (like how to post on Pinterest). OR the title of your blog post…
Step 5: Write a Description
Include keywords naturally. Write at least 250 characters. Tell people why they should click.
Step 6: Add the Destination Link
This is where the pin leads… a blog post, product page, or opt-in.
(IF you’re adding your pin from a direct URL, you can skip this step)
Step 7: Choose a Board
Pin it to the most relevant board.
Step 8: Hit Publish
You’re officially posting on Pinterest! 🚀
