Forgiveness is One of the Hardest Things
Forgiveness is one of the hardest things God asks us to do. Whether it’s forgiving someone who hurt us deeply… or forgiving ourselves for past mistakes, it’s never easy.
I’ve struggled with it over and over. In some seasons, the pain felt so raw that the very thought of letting go seemed impossible. And yet, I always went back to what the Bible says… because I knew God’s way was the only way to real peace.
Why Does Life Feel So Heavy?
The absence of forgiveness doesn’t just make us bitter… it keeps us bound. It’s like carrying around a backpack full of bricks and wondering why life feels so heavy.
I’ve spent years seething, letting anger eat me alive. I was so mad at someone once that I could barely think straight. And the truth? It wasn’t hurting them… it was hurting me. The Bible says to do good to your enemy and it will be like “heaping hot coals on their head” (Romans 12:20), and it will please God. But I couldn’t get there for the longest time.

One thing changed everything for me: I started thinking about Jesus.
I imagined Him in those last moments, treated with unthinkable cruelty, hanging on the cross. And yet, He looked at the very people who were mocking Him and said:
“Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” (Luke 23:34)
If Jesus could forgive in that moment… a moment far beyond anything I could ever imagine enduring — surely, I could forgive here on Earth. My hurt didn’t even compare.
Slowly, my heart softened. I began to see the person who wronged me not as my enemy, but as a soul in need of grace.
I’m not perfect… I’m still a work in progress… but forgiving comes far easier today than it did years ago.
